GAGAS, Single Audit, and HUD Updates Take Center Stage at Galíndez Seminar

As part of our ongoing investment in technical excellence, Galíndez LLC recently held an in-house seminar focused on key developments affecting audit engagements under the Yellow Book and HUD programs for 2025. The session was held at Universidad Universal and brought together members of our auditing staff for a day of technical learning, collaboration, and peer-led instruction.

The seminar opened with a presentation by Cristian Ojeda, CPA, Audit Manager, titled “Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS).” Cristian introduced the agenda for the day and offered a foundational review of the key principles and updates related to GAGAS, also known as Yellow Book standards. His session set the stage for a deeper exploration of federal compliance audits and program-specific guidance.

“Single Audit Update 2025 – Government Focused” was presented by Jorge Arévalo, Audit Supervising Senior, and Emerlin Vélez, CPA, Audit Senior. Their discussion centered on anticipated themes in the 2025 Compliance Supplement, key compliance requirements for government entities, and guidance on auditing federal programs not explicitly listed in the supplement. The presentation also addressed auditing FEMA-related programs and how to navigate common findings, helping the team prepare for the complexities of the upcoming audit cycle.

“HUD Nonprofit Audits 2025” was presented by Jan Rodríguez and Eduardo Amaro, CPA, both Audit Semi-Seniors. Their session provided a comprehensive overview of HUD-related audit considerations for nonprofit entities, including policy updates, documentation requirements, and reporting obligations. While the content covered general guidance applicable across HUD programs, special attention was given to areas where more significant changes were introduced—specifically, Supportive Housing for the Elderly (Section 202), Supportive Housing for Persons with Disabilities (Section 811), and the Section 8 Housing Assistance Payments program. These program-specific updates helped equip the team to anticipate audit risks and ensure continued compliance in federally funded housing audits.

As is often the case during these technical sessions, our own Managing Partner and audit expert, Rafael Nieves, CPA, was on hand to provide additional insight and show his ongoing support for the team. His presence and participation reinforced the importance of these professional development efforts and the collaborative culture that defines Galíndez LLC.

This seminar reflects Galíndez LLC’s commitment to building internal expertise through peer-led training and to staying ahead of regulatory changes that affect our clients.
