Galíndez LLC Tax Partner Kenneth Rivera, CPA, Esq. recently visited the Asociación Universitaria de Contabilidad at the Universidad Central de Bayamón to deliver an engaging presentation titledFinancial Preparation Before Starting a Business (Preparación Financiera Antes de Emprender). The seminar was designed to help students understand how to prepare their personal and business finances before starting a new venture—an essential step for any future entrepreneur.
Kenneth guided students through the realities of entrepreneurship, beginning with the myth of the entrepreneur—that technical expertise alone is enough to run a business. He explained the importance of balancing the three key roles every business needs: the technician, the manager, and the entrepreneur.
The presentation also highlighted practical elements of launching a business, including how to determine the right legal structure (DBA, LLC, partnership, or corporation), capitalization options, and the importance of foundational documents like a partnership agreement and a detailed business plan. Kenneth broke down what a strong business plan should include, from market analysis and marketing strategy to operations and financial projections.
Students also explored concepts like the “Algebra of Wealth”—where focus, discipline, time, and diversification are the building blocks of financial freedom—and the value of “grit,” or the sustained passion and perseverance needed for long-term success. By connecting financial planning with broader qualities like adaptability, continuous learning, and determination, the presentation encouraged students to think beyond numbers and prepare holistically for their careers.
